The idea for creating sponsorships to help send teens to the nations came from a conversation Ayden had with his Pappy in Kenya. He shared this conversation with me, and I promised Ayden that we would get started on it as soon as he arrived home from his dad's. Ayden never made it home. Through the ingenuity of Aunt Char-Char and countless hours of designing, she has taken Ayden's vision and Keeton-ized it. And I don't mean she made it Keeton-sized. I mean she turned up the dial and added the Keeton spunk factor.
I guess I should explain idea, so you can fully grasp what she has done.
Ayden took over 3,000 pictures while he was in Kenya. His plan was to go through those photos and find 13 pictures to create a calendar. He wanted to sell the calendars to fund his next mission trip and to help fund Keeton's first trip. Ayden didn't have the opportunity to see all of the 3,000 photos other than on the camera or phone screen. He did print about 15 pictures. Aunt Char-Char took Ayden's idea of using his pictures to create merchandise. She went beyond the calendars though. She has created journals, magnets, canvases, and ornaments featuring Ayden's pictures. Honoring Ayden's art, she has not edited any of the pictures other than to format them for printing.
She then took Keeton's words of wisdom, song lyrics, and approach to life and created blessing journals for adults and children, keychains, and vinyl stickers.
Coming in July, we will be adding sermon notebooks featuring MeMa's format for taking notes and vinyl stickers featuring her song lyrics.
All proceeds from the merch goes to international mission trip sponsorships for 12-19 year olds going on their first international mission trip. The number of sponsorships available will vary depending on the amount raised from merch during the year. In 2024, we awarded $1,000 sponsorships to help offset the travel and lodging costs for five teens.
